It was the end of a busy day. I stepped out of my car near a fruit seller’s shop to buy some fruits. After few enquirers and negotiations, I finally bought some fruits. Before leaving the shop, I said “Thank you Bhayyia” (brother), he smiled with a twinkle in his eye, I guess I was the first buyer who had thanked him on that day.
This is my regular ritual of thanking people (irrespective of who they are – family members, friends, colleagues or even strangers) who have rendered a service/ helped me.These are the reasons as to why I do it:
- For me, it’s the simplest way of showing gratitude to people who have provided a service/ helped me.
- It calms me – the fact that I thanked a person in a day makes me feel good.
- It has helped me build and improve relationships.
- It has enhanced my empathy towards people.
- Saying thank you and showing appreciation has also resulted in channelizing positive energy. A “Thank You” will probably make people more likely to help others in the future.
When was the last instance that you thanked someone? How did you feel? Do write about your experience.
